The Brief
HH Architecture designs the buildings North Carolina uses. The Steve Troxler Agricultural Sciences Center for the State Department of Agriculture. Ricks Hall at NC State. A central energy plant for Wake Tech. City Lake Park for the City of High Point. The Dueling Dinosaurs laboratory exhibit. Headquarters for Cree LED. Community centers, parks, laboratories, and civic spaces across the state, built for the people who use them every day.
The woman-owned Raleigh firm had doubled in size over five years, taken on larger projects, and expanded into new typologies. The website had not kept pace.
It was not broken. It was safe. For a firm that gets shortlisted against national practices and evaluated by public sector clients, recruits, and consultants long before anyone picks up the phone, safe was the problem. Beautiful project photography sat buried at the bottom of pages. Information about working there was scattered across five different places. The portfolio deserved better than the site it lived on.
The Work
MRC led discovery, sitemap architecture, UX and UI design, and a custom WordPress build.
The structure came first. The navigation went from a long list down to four sections. Project categories were reorganized around how clients actually search rather than around internal typology language. Photography moved from the bottom of the page to the center of the experience, with consistent project templates carrying sketches, renderings, and final images in the same order every time. Employee profiles link to the projects they contributed to, so a prospective client sees the depth of experience behind their team and a prospective hire sees what they would actually work on.
An architecture firm publishes constantly, and a site that needs a developer for routine updates stops getting updated. The build uses templated project cards, reusable patterns, and badge and category systems so the team can add a project or a person without touching code. We delivered a full library of step-by-step documentation and live training for the people who manage it day-to-day.
